Hank Heals:
A Novel of Miracles
I’ve always wanted to write a trilogy. Robertson Davies was a great hero of mine when I was younger (I actually met him on one occasion), and he wrote four of them. Once I’d finished Jake Fades, I felt I’d written a novel about transmission, one teacher passing the teaching on to another. In the next phase, the new teacher would need to establish himself, but first he had to recover from the loss of his teacher. So as I sought a title for this second book, with the two word title of the first ringing in my ears, I figured Hank had to heal from losing his teacher, and thought of the title Hank Heals. Then I thought, that’s an interesting title. I wonder if it has other implications. I’d heard of writers getting their plots from a title, but it had never happened to me until this novel.
